Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for Schools

Practical, compassionate support for students and the people who care for them.

At Headstart, we believe every behaviour tells a story. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services help schools understand and respond to students' needs in a way that’s proactive, respectful, and effective. We partner with schools to build calmer classrooms and more inclusive learning environments where every student has the chance to thrive.

Book a free initial assessment with one of our PBS practitioners. We’ll help you identify the right level of support and build a plan that works for your school.

What is PBS?

PBS is an evidence-based, person-centred approach that focuses on understanding the “why” behind behaviours of concern. It’s not about punishment or quick fixes it’s about creating meaningful, long-term support through skill-building, environment changes, and positive relationships.

How We Support Schools

We offer support at three levels to meet the needs of your entire school community:

Tier 1: Whole-School & Classroom Support

Universal strategies that benefit all students and set a strong foundation for positive behaviour.

  • Whole-school PBS framework implementation

  • Classroom behaviour supports and routines

  • Proactive and preventative strategies

  • Staff training on PBS principles and regulation supports

  • Policy and environmental reviews

Tier 2: Small Group Support

Targeted support for students who need more than the universal strategies.

  • Small group social skills and emotional regulation programs

  • Group-based interventions for shared behavioural challenges

  • Staff coaching to implement consistent strategies

  • Data tracking and progress monitoring tools

Tier 3: Individualised Support

Intensive, tailored support for students with complex behavioural needs.

  • Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA)

  • Individual Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)

  • Direct 1:1 work with the student to build skills and support regulation

  • Staff coaching and modelling of strategies

  • Ongoing consultation with families and school teams

    Evidence-Based Interventions

We use practical, neuroaffirming interventions grounded in the latest research and tailored to real classroom environments. These include:
