What is Speech & Language Therapy?
Speech and Language Therapy involves the assessment and treatment of communication difficulties and speech disorders/ delays. The assessment and therapy itself are designed and conducted by a Speech and Language Therapist, which is often referred to as speech therapist or SaLT.
Speech therapy techniques are used to improve your child’s communication and understanding of language. This can include :
Articulation therapy to develop sounds
Language intervention activities to boost understanding
Communication training to support requesting to others
Social skills interventions to develop social communication and pragmatic language
Reading and comprehension to support academic learning
Speech and Language Therapy may be needed to treat and manage speech disorders that develop in childhood or as a result of autism spectrum disorder.
